Living with Diabetes

You may have had diabetes for anywhere from a few months to several years. While you understand the disease and your responsibilities for managing diabetes, you are having a hard time remaining consistent.

Phase Two is “Getting into a Routine.” Below is one example of how someone in Phase Two of diabetes may be feeling.

Bob discovered that he had diabetes one and one-half years ago and regulates his blood glucose through exercise and diet. Sometimes he thinks he‘s done enough to change his life for diabetes.*

“I think I eat pretty well. Of course I could do better, but I can‘t be good ALL of the time. I know other people who have a less healthy diet than I do. I don't need to make any more changes; I’ve already had to give up so much. I understand what I’m up against and know what I need to do to stay in control.”

Getting into a routine is difficult. Research suggests that it takes at least six weeks to begin creating new habits. You may have been asked to make a number of lifestyle changes that must take place in order to successfully manage diabetes, and this takes time. Living with a chronic disease is a daily struggle. You must constantly be making choices that determine the success of your diabetes management.

You may be discouraged by the constraints that having diabetes seems to put in your life; however, it is possible to enjoy life while making good healthy lifestyle choices.

Your Rite Aid Pharmacist, can help and support you through Phase Two as you begin to create healthy, lasting habits. Rite Aid’s “Diabetes Health Organizer“ is one useful tool to help you get a handle on the many lifestyle changes you must address in order to successfully manage your diabetese.
